Traveling with Infants – 3 Tips for New Parents

Preparation is the most important asset for a successful vacation with children. When traveling with infants, most especially, parents should plan and go through the trip in their minds several times in order to anticipate the ways to make Baby more comfortable whether traveling by plane, by sea or by land. It would also help if the destination is also kid-friendly, meaning they offer both safety and fun for infants. There are several places in the US where combining both these factors are possible. Florida, home of Disneyland Resort and other theme parks are used to handling children of all ages. Pennsylvania, home of Hersheyland and Chocolate World is another kid-easy destination. There’s also Virginia, Yellowstone National Park and San Diego which are top picks as well.

For such a trip, here are a few tips in order to get you organized:

Tip 1: Prepare yourself physically

Especially when you plan to travel alone, be sure that you are in prime physical health when traveling with the baby. You are the most important factor in determining whether your baby is comfortable on the trip or not. Almost surely, you will have to multitask. Trivialities like carrying your own backpack, the baby’s bag, the baby himself and travel necessities will tend to take a toll on you and your physical well-being if you don’t prepare beforehand. Be sure you exercise regularly so you don’t easily tire during the trip itself.

Tip 2: Brief the Infants before the Travel

It’s difficult for infants to instantly change their routine for one trip alone. That is why it is important to slowly ease him in to the rigors of travel. Is he a wriggly and active kind of baby, for instance? Then practice guiding him to be still while you’re carrying him so that you won’t tire too easily or there won’t be any dangers of him wriggling out of your arms during the trip. If you’re planning to use a baby carrier, ease him into that as well. If possible, do test runs with him. Take him on short bus rides or short ferry rides just to break him in and see what his initial reactions are. This way, you are also able to anticipate any mishaps that might occur on that big trip.

Tip 3: Pack his Comfort things

Although you’re sure to be packed already, it would help soothe the baby if he has things he’s comfortable with close by. Some bring a security blanket. Others bring their favorite teddy bear. Still others would bring a pacifier or pictures of loved ones to give the child a feeling of security in the midst of a new environment. You will be surprised how this will be of use in many occasions.

Lastly, don’t forget to have fun with your baby along the way! Point out to him new things that are unique to your travels. Traveling together is a unique bonding experience that is truly priceless, so be sure to make every moment of it count.

Going on Vacation with Your Kids

If you are preparing to have a vacation with your family then there will be matters that you will need to consider–where to go, what items to pack, how to reach your destination (airplane or car?). Many parents worry about traveling with their kids because they fear that it will be full of hassle. The truth is, with enough preparation, your vacation with your kids can actually go smoothly. Here are some tips to keep in mind if you are planning to go on a holiday with your kids.

Where to go

Naturally, the first thing you need to do would be to choose a destination where you and your family can go. “Fun for the whole family” is the phrase that you need to keep in mind when deciding where to go. You might also want to establish what you want your trip to be. Do you want the vacation to be fun and relaxing, educational, adventurous or all of the above? Based on this decision, you can easily narrow down your choices. For instance, if you want your kids to have fun, then go to popular family places such as Disney Land or any other amusement park. For an educational trip, visit historical sites and museums. For an adventure, have your kids try out camping or any new sports. When planning your itinerary for the day, make sure you make the activities short and varied. Since kids have a short attention span, it will be better to avoid activities that last the whole day long.

What to Pack

Packing for kids is another preparation that can be tricky if you don’t know how to do it right. If you are traveling with a baby, the first things you need to pack would be all the baby essentials—such as diapers, bottles, etc. The same goes for small toddlers. If your little one is used to drinking on his sippy cup and has a security blanket then you need to pack all these for the trip. Packing for older kids is easier and you can even enlist their help to give them a sense of responsibility. Keep your destination in mind when deciding what children’s clothes to bring. For instance, if you are going to tropical Hawaii, then your kid won’t need his snow boots.

How to get there

Lots of preparation is done before an airplane can take off—such as double-checking the engine, cleaning the cabin, etc. You should carry out the same meticulous process if you are traveling with a car. Always update and upgrade the items in your tool box and make sure they are compatible to your car. Have your car checked out by elite team of mechanics since you do not want to run into a conflict on your way. Prepare food supply enough for the passengers (your family) as well as enough activities for the kids. Children can get pretty impatient on the road (or on the sky if you are going by plane) so it’s important to have something that will entertain them during the travel hours.

Great Thinkers On the Lost Culture

The mystique of a forgotten island has captured the imaginations of students of the unknown and baffled scholars for a score of centuries. With the availability of the world’s libraries, Online book store connoisseurs have at their disposal a large selection of works regarding the legend of Atlantis, both academically oriented and science fiction books.

There are more versions of what the nature of this fantastic island engendered and beneath which sea the lost continent could be found than nearly any other tale of primordial people. Indeed, the topic of a genius race which predated our earliest records has endured exactly for the reason that it holds so much meaning to the quester after knowledge.

Renowned prophet Edgar Cayce conceived of the island as a vast continent, approximately equal in size to Europe. As recounted in the medium’s amazing vision, the Atlanteans were gifted with powerful psionic abilities and tools, and were the progenitors of the oddly congruent solar-worshiping civilizations of the early Mesopotamians and the Empires of native America. The subject is identified by many writers with the paranormal.

There is even some evidence the people of Atlantis built their technology on sources of alternative energy, making advanced use of the power of the sun.

The most popular positions regarding the position of the ruins stretch from the Far East to the Bermuda Triangle, though, of course the most promising candidates which are small local islands with a long tradition, particularly Sardinia and Malta.

The mystery may always remain concerning what marvels the Atlanteans mastered, nevertheless, there is one lesson which is hard to deny: human kind has achieved high levels of advancement in the distant past and the loop of development and decimation, perhaps in a recurring pattern, long before what we generally think of as the the genesis of.

Vaca to Australia

CB032854While he idea of sitting on a plane for nine million years (or 24 hours to be exact) sounds like a total nightmare, a few of the girlfriends I went to dinner with last night, were bragging all about how gorgeous it is and it got me thinking about our next vacation. After the holiday I always like to plan to run away  a vacation.  In Australia the winter days are over and spring is coming. The thought of laying out on one of the Australian beaches is sounding pretty damn good right now considering the disaster NJ is in the middle of January.

I am looking at three places right now:

Palm Beach. It is located an hour away north from Sydney and visiting it is definitely worth it. The beach itself is about 3 kilometers long and has clean white sand all along. There are shops, restaurants and cafes on the southern end of the beach line. Half of the beach, where there are no parking spaces, is usually very calm and not really crowded. Hyams Beach is another recommended place, situated in Jervis Bay (New South Whales). Its waters and sands are also among the cleanest in the world. Jervis Bay has the status of a national park and it is very popular place among tourists and locals.

In Port Douglas, Queensland, you can find the Four Mile Beach. It is perhaps the best one in the state and offers warm and clear waters and a perfect landscape with the ocean, beach and palms. And when it comes to Port Douglas I cannot help but think about the Great Barrier Reef.

Last, but not least, in Victoria you can visit the Ninety Mile Beach. It is a long strip of land with perfect sand and it is among the most natural beaches, unspoiled by human hand. In the waters in the area there are numerous marine species and you can go whale and dolphin sighting. You can also swim, fish, walk or just lie in the sun. And when mentioning Victoria, I will remind you of the Great Ocean road, which is a must-see if you go to Australia. It is 106 kilometers long and offers some of the best views around the continent.

Oh and above all that, there are men with those super cute accents. Remember Crocodile Dunndee!? How cute was THAT guy!? If they have men like that, I don’t even care if there are beaches and it is a 24 hour flight. I am there.

So shall I practice my “Good day mate?” and book it already?

Vacation Rentals By Owner: Hotels Over

Seriously, I am exhausted. I NEED a vacation.

This holiday was completely insane. And since my girlfriends love to torture me (um remind me) we need to plan our summer vacation within the next few weeks because all of the good properties get snatched up fast. This year we are going to get a big house either in the Carolinas or maybe the Jersey shore. I am in charge of researching vacation rentals by owner because they all think I have that kind of time. LOL.

Originally I was looking to hotels and the typical suites but with three kids, one on the way, I realize our days of hotels are coming to an end. We would need a least two rooms just for our family alone, cause one room – three kids in a bed, a crib, etc. would be kind of ghetto. So the plan is to get a big house and that way we can all split the costs and all of our little ones have their own bed. You know actually meet fire code safety standards.  I am starting to feel a little white trashy when we go to check into a hotel and we have like 300 kids going into one room. We are starting to get the looks we used to get on Spring Break when 85 of us would check in for one room. LOL

So I figured we could probably live like the rich and famous if we got a huge house somewhere and it would be a blast just to have a pool and a really villa rental . I figure we won’t have to worry about the noise or the people below us being kept awake or woken up at 4 am because of the kids.  Oddly enough I think it actually going to be less expensive because we are going to split it with two other families. Plus we won’t have to eat out every single meal  – so we won’t have to control our wild pack of chimpanzees, I mean children. Honestly, some of my friends kids are such barbarians I HATE eating out with them because I am always sweating it out.

Most vacation rentals are also fully equiped and are made extremely comfortable as a lot of owners use them theirselves for their holidays and obviously want to have their rentals kitted out with the latest modern creature comforts. That gives me some serious faith that they are going to be nice because no one wants their own homes trashed. Plus, at the very least it means we are ALL not sharing one bathroom and seriously that is a huge plus.

Vrbo can be had worldwide in Orlando, Florida USA, France, Spain and also Italy in Europe and other countries and continents including Africa, Asia and South America.

I will keep you posted on where we are headed and how it goes…..if nothing else just to bitch about what my kids/friends/husband did. LOL

Ciao BeatRome.com – 10th Anniversary Escape

I can not believe how many (dress sizes), I mean, years ago it was that I was twirling around in that Vera Wang wedding dress. Sigh…it has been almost 10 years, and three children ago, so you know what that means right? Hubby owes me one hell of a gorgeous piece of jewelry for our 10 year anniversary and I am thinking a nice vaca. I was thinking maybe Aruba (sun, drinks, laying on a lounge chair…SOLD) but Mr. Gigi had a different vision of our anniversary plans.  He thought we  should probably go somewhere we haven’t been..oh…twenty times, and do something with sightseeing or educational. (Ewww…educational.) He suggested Italy, I immediately thought of not the architecture, or history but Italian leather shoes, and was actually excited.

I was thinking maybe we could stay with family if we went to Italy, (my cousins have a house)  but then thought about that for more than a second and realized um…no thanks. LOL I like a lot of hot water, and room service, and resturants.  They don’t really have that in their little villa outside of Rome. I am going to stick with Rome (objections anyone?) but I was not sure if I wanted to get a  Rome apartment, a luxury hotel or a bed and breakfast in Rome. (Although that is the kind of question that is like do you want your million dollars on a tray or in a suitcase – either way you are getting a million dollars!)

So thanks to Google (seriously I love Google so much I could marry it LMAO) I found thi s site called BeatRome.com. It has all kinds of apartments in Rome, hotels and bed and breakfasts. I don’t have a PayPal account (but I need to get one anyway) but I thought it was kind of cool I could just reserve it and then pay with PayPal.  I need to do a little more research but I think I may be saying Ciao in my new Italian pumps pretty soon….
